Supernatural Goes Animated: Scooby-Doo Crossover

I know this sounds like a joke. But it was confirmed by both Jared and Jensen at the CW Upfront celebration that it was real. At some point during the 2017-2018 season of Supernatural they will be doing a full animated episode Scooby-Doo style. I am SO EXCITED for this you have no idea! Growing up Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! was my favorite cartoon and I freaking loved the celebrity Scooby-Doo movies. The Harlem Globetrotter episodes were the best! They were just so fun and seeing them teamed up with real life celebrities may have been some of the original meta before meta was even a thing.

And I love when Supernatural breaks the 4th wall like this, as the episodes usually turn out amazing. The French Mistake was probably the most popular of all the meta. But episodes like Hollywood Babylon (the Gilmore Girls reference), Ghostfacers, Fallen Idols, The Monster at the end of This BookThe Real Ghostbusters, and Changing Channels are also some of the funniest episodes they have ever done.

Not Unprecedented Territory

This isn’t a totally crazy thing to have happen in the Supernatural world either. They have gone meta before, in episodes like The French Mistake. They have also tread over briefly into the cartoon world with Cas in Hunteri Heroici. Not to mention all the Scooby-Doo jokes Dean has dropped over the years. Finally the secret dream of seeing the Winchesters team up with my favorite canine detective gives me so much joy.

I cannot wait to see what they do with this episode, or if the rest of Scoobies team will be there as well. There is so much to look forward to next season. Granted, they don’t kill the fandom with tonight’s finale. So buckle up if you’re riding in the Impala, and hang on tight if you’re in the Mystery Machine – ’cause no one ever seems to wear seat-belts in that van – for the adventure you didn’t know you needed… but now can’t live without.
