Nerd News – Weekend Catch-Up: Star Wars Birthdays, Woody talks Han Solo, a legend lost

Good Day to all the Geek Enthusiasts and Nerd Aficionados!!

We are past the weekend. It went quickly as we all focused on making sure to show our Mothers how important they are to us. Now lets talk about nerd news you may have missed over the weekend on May 13th & 14th, 2017.

Star Wars Legends Celebrate Birthdays

Joe Johnston

On the 13th Joe Johnston, the “Father of Boba Fett” celebrated his 67th Birthday. Not only did Joe give us the look of Boba, but his mark on the pop culture land scape is so much more. Joe has directed some of the most beloved geek films. Honey, I shrunk the kids, The Rocketeer, Jumanji, and Captain America: The First Avenger are just a few of these films. Joe is going to continue bringing us the movie love as he is the director for the next chapter in the Chronicles of Narnia film series, The Silver Chair.

Not only did we get Joe’s birthday, but we got the father of , what to many of us is, our favorite fandom. George Lucas had his birthday on the 14th turning 73 years old. Of course George gave us Star Wars, but on top of this we got Indiana Jones, and Willow. Along with the lesson on how to merchandise your product, there is no better merchandising then Star Wars collectibles.

Woody Harrelson talks Han Solo filmwoody_harrelson

The Star Wars news just keeps going, in an interview with the London Evening Standard, Woody spoke a little on the Han Solo Anthology film that is coming next year. When I say little, I mean about 2 sentence worth. After all Star Wars does know how to keep a secret. Here’s what he said in the interview:

“I am totally psyched to be making a Star Wars film. But the secrecy is on another level. What I can say he’s a good character, he is a mentor to Han and a criminal, but good at heart.”

So it looks like Woody’s character is going to take Han under his wing, possibly raise him. Being a criminal but good at heart is the definition of a scoundrel. Looking like Woody is the character that Han aspires to be like, hence why he acts the way he does.

Lost another legend

Powers_BootheOn a very sad note, character actor Powers Boothe passed away on Sunday May 14, 2017 of natural causes in his sleep. Heavily known for his great Western characters, Curly Bill Brocius in Tombstone and Cy Tolliver in Deadwood. He was most recently seen in Agents of Shield as Gideon Malick, bringing his pop culture status to a crescendo. It is with deepest regrets that we share this news. Our condolences to his family, friends, and fans.

That is the main nerd news from the weekend. Let us know in the comments below if we missed anything. Hope everyone had a wonderful Mother’s Day and get prepared for the great articles to come this week.
