Nerd Fight Poll: Best Superbowl Commercial

Hello all you Geek Enthusiasts and Nerd Aficionados!

We are back, with our first flash nerd fight of the season!! We are living up to our new podcast name, All nerd News and dipping our toe into the world of sports. In case you have been living under a rock somewhere, today we celebrate the Superbowl. The Superbowl offers so much to enjoy: action, drama, food to pig out on.

But for those who don’t care about sports, never fear, it’s the one time of year you go and watch for the commercials. Every year advertisers will spend months attempting to create the best commercial of the bowl. And every year fans debate among themselves what the best one was. So we are giving you a forum to debate and have it out what the best commercial was.

So without further ramblings from me, here are the contestants for the best Superbowl commercial:

1. Washington Post

Not an advertiser one often sees in the Super Bowl, The Washington Post debuted strong. Narrated by Tom Hanks, the video highlights the importance of journalism. Using images of events covered by Journalists throughout the years; it drives home the key message, Knowledge is power. Stay Informed.

2. Pepsi

Here is a company that doesn’t shy away from attracting the hottest stars of the year to star in it’s ads. They’ve had everyone from MJ to Britney Spears, David Bowie to Tina Turner. This year brought you the delightful pairings of Steve Carell, Cardi B with a little old school Lil Jon thrown in for flavor. Is Pepsi Ok? You be the judge.

3. Game of Thrones/Bud Light

This was the mashup we didn’t see coming. What appeared to be the Bud Light Knight and his Dilly Dilly back for a romp turned out not to be. Bud Knight gets smashed by the Mountain in a joust. And a dragon lights the tournament on fire. The final season is coming, and I am not ready.

4. Walmart

Walmart knocked it out of the park this year bu featuring a commercial loaded with nerdy nostalgic goodness. promoting their new curbside groceries, famous cars from movies and TV stopped by the store to pick up their groceries. From the mystery machine to the bat mobile watch below to see if you recognize all the cars that appear.

5. Amazon

We’ve seen some funny Alexa Super Bowl ads from Amazon in recent years. This year may take the cake though. Featuring a line of Alexa product fails, from hot tubs that eject people to dog collars that order massive amounts of dog food, it was funny and clever. And they had a delightful cameo of Harrison Ford, Grumpy dog owner.

6. NFL 100

This year, the NFL got to air a commercial to kick off its 100th anniversary celebration. it featured stars of the game going back decades, as well as current hot players of the NFL. Anyone who was anyone was in it, from players to announcers. It also featured Sam Gordan, a teen girl who has become an activist for girl’s tackle football programs. So watch and see if you can list all the people that appear (44 cameos in total)
