Nerd Fight Poll: Who Is the Best Disney Animated Character
Hello all you Geek Enthusiasts and Nerd Aficionados!
We are back with another poll for this week. Last week saw the fight for the best Doctor Who Doctor/Companion Team Up. To honor the departure of Moffat and Capaldi we all reminisced over our favorite teams over the years. We got a ton of response from voters, especially on reddit. A lot of wonderful discussions were had with voters over the last week. So thanks to everyone who came out and participated you made the week a lot of fun.
This week we herald the arrival of D23 Expo. D23 is the official Disney fan club. Named in honor of the year 1923, when Walt left Kansas City, headed for Hollywood and founded what would become the greatest theme park of all time. So we decided to pit some of Disney’s greatest created characters against each other. So here are the participants in this week’s Nerd Fight:
Mr. Incredible was a classic superhero, who was not dealing well with his forced retirement. Bob is physically invulnerable, but all too human in his flaws. He grows weary of a world that will not stay saved for more than five minutes; and later, shows a streak of hubris and arrogant pride, seeking to relive his glory days at the expense of his family life. Luckily he came out the other side a better hero, husband and father.
The quintessential farm girl dreaming of a bigger better life. What young girl hasn’t related to Belle at some point in their life. A young girl who uses books to escape the doldrums of reality, never fitting in with her peers. Brave, loyal and compassionate were the things she inspired people to be. She was the Princess who taught us to look beyond the surface a person to find the Prince within.
Genie is an all-powerful spirit residing in a magical oil lamp. The character was created with Robin Williams in mind for the voice. Luckily the studio got their way and Robin accepted the role. Robin Williams supplied the character with an unconventional method of voice acting which proved to be groundbreaking, resulting in universal acclaim. Genie become one of the most iconic and influential characters in the history of animated films.
No Disney list would be complete without the villain that rules them all. Maleficent is an incarnation of pure evil. She takes offense at not being invited to the christening of Princess Aurora. She reacts to this by cursing Aurora to die on her 16th birthday. Maleficent is one of the most popular and recognizable Disney Villains, in addition to being one of the primary members of the official franchise.
Baymax is based on the Marvel character of the same name from the Marvel Comics Series, Big Hero 6. He was a healthcare Robot, designed for Hiro by his brother. He changes from an intelligent robot there to provide healthcare and protection to Hiro, to a robot with feelings all on his own. Proof that friendship and caring can alter programming.
Ariel is an independent, headstrong and determined young mermaid. She spends most of her time outside the palace walls of Atlantica singing, daydreaming, and adventuring with her best friend Flounder. She becomes infatuated with the human world, eventually becoming one with them to be with Eric her love. Proof again that redheads will not be denied.
Taran is headstrong, adventurous, good-hearted, and courageous, though occasionally foolhardy, and harbors an intense desire to prove his worth and heroism through noble acts. As Taran grew up, he became restless and longed for adventures beyond the borders of Caer Dallben. He ends up saving the realm and winning the princess by the time his story is complete.
Darkwing Duck is about the adventures of the titular superhero, aided by his sidekick and pilot, Launchpad McQuack. He has a secret Identity he lives by the name of Drake Mallard. Darkwing struggles to balance his egotistical craving for fame and attention against his desire to be a good father and do good in St. Canard. Most episodes put these two aspects of Darkwing’s character in direct conflict, though Darkwing’s better nature usually prevails.
