Nerd Fight: Best Halloween Horror Franchises

We are back with another poll for this week. Last week saw the fight for the most exciting new fall television show. It was a heated battle in the race for first, The Gifted barely edging out Me Myself and I. The biggest debate though was brought down between NudieRudie and BCon, and the merits of Orville. Overall consensus seems to be that Seth is just too much Seth and more focus on side characters would be nice. A lot of wonderful discussions were had with voters over the last week. So thanks to everyone who came out and participated you made the week a lot of fun.

Big Little Lies: The Real Truth

So every year when I watch the Emmy’s, I always get a plethora of new shoes to check out. And this year did not disappoint in giving me some goodies. But none stood out quite as well as HBO’s Big Little Lies. I am a HUGE fan of the who done it murder mystery genre. And a murder mystery set up where you don’t even know who is dead? Not until the final moments of the last episode of the series? Welcome to the world of Big Little Lies. This series takes you on a ride filled with laughter, pain, jealousy and snark, where someone doesn’t make it out alive.

J.J. Abrams directing Star Wars Episode IX: Pros and Cons

Last week Disney released news again of agreeable differences with a director. This time it was Colin Trevorrow. The man in the director’s seat for episode IX. The film that may or may not be the close of the Skywalker Saga. This came shortly on the heels of Disney cutting ties with Lord and Miller on the Han Solo Anthology film. Disney took on the task of recreating the awe all Star Wars fans had when watching the original trilogy. In doing this they may have stressed themselves out trying to be perfect. As a fan I say bravo we deserve something perfect, but as a follower of the House of Mouse I say “control issues much?”

Lets Talk Dead – Part 1

As most already know we had a small scare that Season 8 may or may not get written, which gave me a big time scare and had me biting my nails!  But they are working on it now and everything is okay. As normal The Walking Dead will have it’s first episodes in October. I can’t wait to see what happens, will the fight with Negan be kept going for 16 more episodes or will the team we all love win with in the first few episodes. I for one would love to see Negan eat by tiger but at the same time I find him to be one of there best bad guys Rick and his family have faced ( beside zombies). Again this show is something I love and look forward to watch when it airs again in October. But on to more about The Walking Dead.

Best TV Finales of All Time (In My Opinion)

There are tv shows that touch us. There are tv shows that move us. Some are shows that inform who we are as people.

The problem is, they end. Some end well. Some end in a way that we think “My god, that is correct. That is right. That is how that should have ended.” I’m doing two lists. This second one (well after when I promised it, I know) is those shows. These are the ones that left us crying in happiness, or grinning, or just… satisfied. In no particular order, here are my favorite series finales.

The Invention of Hugo Cabret

Once upon a time, there was a young boy who had no family, no home, and no friends. All the boy had were the clocks of the train station in Paris and the silent automaton sitting in his little garret. Day after day, he would wind the clocks and steal his dinner. At night, he would work on the mechanical figure with parts pocketed from a wind-up toy shop. One day, he is caught by the shop owner, one day he makes friends with the shop owner’s granddaughter. One day, his precarious life is thrown upside down and changed.

Preacher And Their Dynamic Duo

So I’ve been on a Preacher kick lately. I binge watched the show 3 episodes in to season 2. This show is a wild ride and often does things that people won’t expect. Having never read the comics, I thoroughly enjoy a show that keeps me so often surprised at what I just watched. But Season 2 is far superior to Season 1 for one reason. And that is the introduction of The Grail, and it’s soldiers Lady Featherstone And F.J. Hoover. The 2 of them on screen have a weird chemistry together that works when they are in scenes together.

His band, the Vanderbilts, is producing a rock album with Legendary Producer Tony Shimkin. So it appears that he is going to be a very busy guy here in the near future between this and next season TWD.

Doctor Who San Diego Comic Con 2017

SDCC Doctor Who Panel, Hall H, July 23, 2017

This last weekend, I had the honor of being at the San Diego Comic Con International, Hall H panel for Doctor Who.  7000 attendees, press and professionals were present to honor Peter Capaldi (12th Doctor), Steven Moffat (Executive Producer and Head Writer), and Pearl Mackie (Bill Pots, Companion).  The audience gave a standing ovation to Peter Capaldi and he was moved as it was the first time he has ever received a standing ovation.  My wife and I were very thankful to be present to honor Peter Capaldi in particular as we have missed the annual San Diego panel for the last few years.

What is grabbing a lot of headlines though? The 13th Doctor is female.  But, who cares?  What is going to happen when you finally see a female doctor controlling the TARDIS and pulling companions through adventures?  This is not a cross dresser changing their gender from a male to a female.  This is an alien with no gender preference.
