World of Warships
HSF Harekaze and HSF Graf Spee
Now I know what you are all thinking. “Isn’t the Graf Spee a ship from Germany? Why does it share the same prefix as the Harekaze, a Japanese ship? Well you’re right and technically Harekaze doesn’t exist. Wargaming recently partnered with another anime in the past – Arpeggio of Blue Steel – but this time however the ships are rewards for challenges. Wargaming has released two new ships into the game from the Anime High School Fleet or better known as Haifuri. The tier VI ship HSF Admiral Graf Spee and the tier VIII HSF Harekaze are the two new additions to the World of Warships roster.
Both are modified versions of ships that exist in the game with a minor stat boost. HSF Graf Spee compared to the regular KMS Graf Spee has 2 premium camos and comes with a custom anime captain Thea Krutzer who is Graf Spee’s Captain in the anime. Nothing is really changed other than gaining a rare captain, the other stats are superficial. With Harekaze, well, she is the red headed step child of destroyers and gets Akeno Misaki as her custom anime captain. She gets three different hulls which change her guns. In the picture above that is her 11-12 hull sporting three turrets with one 5 inch gun. Now then lets get into their stats:
Harekaze is a tier VIII, Kagero-class destroyer and has seven different hull set ups. She always has two sets of four oxygen torpedo tubes and her max speed is 35 knots and her first hull known as 11-12 comes with guns similar to that of the Fletcher-class destroyer. Her 11-12 guns 125 mm (5 inch)/54 mk39 guns. These guns are rapid fire guns with low dispersion and medium range with a reload time of 6.3 seconds and a range of 9.4 km. These guns deal low amount of damage but can really be effective in stealth firing in smoke.
Her second hull is labeled as 4-10, giving her 100 mm (3.9 inch)/65 type 98 rapid fire dual purpose cannons. She gets two guns per turret with three turrets total, two in the back and one in the front with a reload around 3.5 seconds sharing the same guns and turrets as Akizuki. This set up is mainly for anti-aircraft purposes and will guarantee at least one plane shot down.
Finally we go to the last package with a 127 mm (5 inch)/50 3rd year type which essentially makes her a stock Kagero. Harekaze getting the default Kagero guns is the only thing special about this set up. Her top speed is 35 knots and up to 40 knots with speed boost and speed signals, making her very slow and lethargic making Akizuki the only destroyer slower then her at her tier. However unique to Harekaze she gets her special camouflage making her appearance like her anime counterpart and second unique camo just for her.
- Very flexible destroyer
- Multiple gun schemes
- Fast reload time for 4-10 and 11-12
- High damaging torpedos
- Good AA (4-10 only)
- Strongest artillery destroyer of IJN destroyers
- Two Premium Camoflauges
- Custom Anime Captain Misaki Akeno
- Stock Kagero torpedos
- Slow compared to other same tier destroyers
- Has only 2 torpedo launchers
- Wider turning radius then Kagero
- 11-12 guns easily breakable
- Can’t take hits
Worth the Buy?
In Harekaze’s case she isn’t an easy destroyer to handle especially at high tier, she plays differently then the actual Kagero-class you see in the game normally, she has to constantly switch between gunfire and long range torpedoes which can be a bit of a hassle but once you get the hang of her, she can be one of the deadliest destroyers out there. This ship is good for players who are good with torpedos and also good with guns which makes her very versatile. However the recommended setup is the 4-11 as the 1-3 guns are the stock guns of Kagero and the 11-12, although powerful, are not enough to cause sufficient damage at high tier.
HSF Graf Spee
Now the HSF Graf Spee is a bit underwhelming, but what do you expect with this ship? She starts the game as a tier VI heavy cruiser and is essentially the same has her regular counterpart KMS Graf Spee. She has two turrets, one in the front and one in the back with each turret equipped with three 283 mm (11 inch) guns. Her horizontal armor is relatively strong for a cruiser but still shouldn’t be squaring off against battleships. She has eight secondary guns total on her with a max range of 4 km, however her 8 km torpedos make her secondaries completely useless as the same as her KMS Counterpart.
As for her AA guns she carries 17 AA guns on board giving her much better AA than the German tier VI counterpart Nurnberg. To boost her AA defense she can equip Defensive Fire instead of Hydroacoustic Sensors. This brings her AA up to 100% efficiency for a short period of time. She can also repair party which is uncommon in mid tier cruisers with the exception of British cruisers, this consumable allows her to repair lost health within a time limit. Unique to the ship is her two special premium camouflages. As with Harekaze, since Graf Spee in the real world played a short yet big role she gets her HSF camo that makes her look like her anime counterpart and camo that takes her back to her original look making it identical to the normal Graf Spee.
Be cautious when playing her. Although she has the largest guns of any cruiser in the game she is easily outgunned. Her top speed is only 28knots making her the slowest cruiser of her tier. So make sure you are properly spaced. With only two turrets keeping them alive is vital as she has only one in the front and one in the back. She is able to citadel up to tier 8 battleships however you will have to be within 6 km to do so which is already in your torpedo range. With her torpedos located in the very back of the ship she has the best torpedo angles in the game. She is almost able to fire them fully forward and fully backwards but the torpedo tubes are frail and break easily.
- High caliber guns
- Long range and high damaging torpedos (for a cruiser)
- Good armor for cruiser
- Above average AA for her tier
- Two Premium Camoflauges
- Custom Anime Captain Thea Krutzer
- Easily citadeled
- Slowest cruiser of her tier
- Frail torpedo launchers
- Terrible bullet spread
- Battleship like reload time
- Easily out gunned
Worth the Buy?
Well to sum it up, HSF Graf Spee didn’t change from her normal counterpart other than in appearance. She is a collectable ship so who knows if she will ever return to the market? I would say she makes a fine addition to any collection. Plus they both give cute anime captains to add to your rooster. Especially if you missed out on the Arpeggio events earlier in game.
